Staff AICP Certification
Erika Martin, AICP, a project planner with Benchmark, became a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners by successfully passing the nationally required exam on May 10, 2010.
Ms. Martin has over 4 years of experience in the planning field serving as a planner for the Town of Williamston, North Carolina for three years prior to joining Benchmark in 2008. While in Williamston, Ms. Martin was responsible for code enforcement activities, plan review, preparing/assisting with reports and presentations for the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, and Appearance Commission. In addition, she was responsible for creating and maintaining the Town’s GIS data layers and producing GIS maps.
Ms. Martin was also involved with fundraising and grant writing efforts for downtown enhancement projects. In addition she worked closely with the committees of the Small Town Main Street Program to implement the Four Point Approach® in revitalizing downtown. Her endeavors with the committees resulted in the fruition of a downtown park, façade improvements to several downtown buildings, selection of a community art piece, establishment of beautification programs, eminent domain of a downtown building, monthly community events, and various promotional activities.
Since joining Benchmark, Ms. Martin has worked on special projects for the City of Kannapolis, the Town of Troutman, the Town of Marshall, the City of Randleman, and Colleton County, South Carolina. She also serves as lead staff planner and Planning Director for the Town of Troutman.
