FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan helps guide nearly everything local governments are responsible for on a daily basis. They are utilized to guide budgeting, work programs, and are usually based on 20-year projections. These plans are divided into specific subject areas, including demographics, economic development, land-use, housing, transportation, recreation, public services and other needs, establishing goals and policies for each important area. While comprehensive plans do help guide future regulatory decision-making, they are not regulatory instruments. Instead, local government regulations and "zoning" documents exist as separate documents, updated individually through public process and action by the local governing body. Bermuda Run’s first comprehensive plan will provide residents the opportunity to identify the characteristics in Bermuda Run that need to be preserved and establish a vision for the future of Bermuda Run. Once adopted, the new comprehensive plan will help direct Town Staff work and Council decisions from a long-range perspective.
Who is involved in the process?
Everyone! The Town will hold several community meetings and has established this website to encourage the involvement of all citizens. Guiding the process will be the Planning Board that will meet regularly with Town Staff and consultants to develop the plan. All residents are encouraged to participate in the meetings and through this project website.
How long will the process take?
The plan will be completed and adopted by March 2012.
Why is this important to me?
The plan will provide guidance for future land use, transportation, and design issues throughout the Town. The Town needs your input to help determine where the most pressing needs for improvements exist.
